hotspring
fun
Happy
Times¡@¡@by:Chang Wei-Chih
¡@
¡@¡@When we all went
to the public tub, everyone was anxious to get in. At first
people tested the water temperature with their feet, and
even though it was really hot,
we still hopped in and after dipping the whole body in there,
it didn't feel as hot anymore. After a while, we had tiny
drops of sweat on our faces, and it was a really good feeling.
¡@¡@The wonderful time we have at the hotspring had to come
to a sad end when the day was nearly over, and we all felt
happy but disappointed that the fun trip ended so quickly.

hotspring tour
vigorous
ground heat and startling pipelines
(Yangminshan National Park, 2001/9/18
12:30p.m. press release)
On
the way from Yangmingshan to Gold mountain road, just
about 100 meters before the Horsestable Bridge, the
devastating results and damages from hurricane Nali
has paralized the traffic, and despite the official
warning signs by the police, some tourists still drove
through, and some have already been injured. We strongly
advice the public take notice of the situation and take
a detour when going through this region. |
¡@Horsestable
is a typical valley which resulted from a previous geological
collapse. It is bigger than the one in Little Oilpit and
due to the frequent occurances of typhoons and thunderstorms,
it is quite easily prone to accidents and collapses.
¡@There
was a big accident here in 1986, when the Horsestable Bridge
was washed off, and as shown in the picture, the residue
from the previous accident is still readily seen,in fact
fallen
rocks are all over the valley
¡@This area is now forbidden from
tourists, and when standing on the bridge, one can still
see vigorous ground heating activities taking place. Perhaps
what is most interesting and scary are the numerous and
messy pipelines that crawl across the entire region. These
lines are all used to channel water to the hotspring tubs
and hotels, and the reason for their unorderly appearance
is because the old ones haven't been completed cleared out.
¡@This
region is now officially under the supervision of the National
Park, and we hope that this situation will be improved soon.

my
thoughts
small
springs, big knowledge
by:Lin Yi-Chen
¡@Our
teacher told us today that there are two basic types of
hotspring in Taiwan:
- carbohydrate series:such
as Woolai, Central Mountains, all the way to Pingdong.
These springs are clear and drinkable.
- volcanic series:These are
sulferic, and they taste a little sour and salty and
should not be drank. The entire Datoon mountain region
is of this type.
There are also two types of
hotspring formation: one is where the hotspring simply
flows out; the other is where one must channel water through
the region, and try to heat the water by using the ground
heat produced by the region.
¡@We are thankful that our teacher
told us so much about the ordinary hotspring. We would
never have known that so much knowledge was involved.
This was a trip of sense and sensibility.
The
bothersome pipelines
¡@¡@¡@ by:Dren Yihway
¡@Sitting
on the tourbus,the
Horsestable Bridge, after a long wait, is finally in
sight. As we look far, we see the heatwaves coming out
of the ground everywhere.
¡@What surprised
me was that the entire region is crawling with gray pipelines
and I saw workers working here and there. And after our
teacher explained to us what was going on, I finally realized
how important it was to take care of our environment.

'remake' blueprint
|
- This region is now under protected
as a geological protection area. In consideration of safety
reasons, and because we wish to keep some of the natural
scenes in it, we decided to renovate the region right
underneat the bridge.
- idea one:When
we travel along the existing trail, we wish to build a
safe scenic trail which will lead to different types of
areas such as feetdipping area, pipeline area, special
rocks area, and
geospring
analysis area. One can both enjoy the scenery yet
get information that is useful as well.
- idea
two:feet
dipping area-this is where tourists get to relax and
dip their feet and get a firsthand touch of the hotspring.

- idea three:pipeline
area will enable businesses to only use a few large pipes,
and the government can regulate small pipelines and their
distributions. This will help clear up the look of this
area tremendously.
idea
four :special
rock area-due to the diversity of the types of rocks
present in this region, it is very useful to establish
a area where tourist can study and learn about the rocks.
Perhaps a type of rock
classroom could be considered.
