Little
Oilpit hotspring
scenery
introduction
Little
Oilpit is located on the Northwestern part of the Sevenstar
Mountains, and is around 805 meters in height. Little Oilpit
got her name because people in the past needed to cook sulfur
after they mine the place, and the dissolved sulfur is yellowish
like oil. Thus
getting her name oilpit. The larger one is located on the
Northeastern part of the Sevenstar Mountains, inside the
National Park, and is called the Large Oilpit. This one
is smaller, thus called the Little
Oilpit.
Yangmingshan
National Park office has set up quite a service station
here in Little Oilpit to provide tourists with valuable
information.
In
addition, there are two watchspots here, which allows us
to see the faraway Sevenstar Mountains, little Buddha mountain,
Bamboo Hill, and the Bamboo lake.
From
Little Oilpit heading toward the Sevenstar Mountains one
can see a place where it is perfect to get a view of the
Mon grasslands. Past poets have described such a sight in
their poetry and is a real treat for modern tourists to
get a taste of the same feeling, espcially during
the fall and winter season.

spring
quality
Little
Oilpit hotspring smell of sulvur, looks grayish, and is
acidic, with a pH value around 1.5~3﹒5, and a temperature
of up to 99degC.
|
geological
quality
Little
Oilpit's most distinguishing characteristic is the numerous
unique
geological sights,including puffholes,
crystals, and collapses.
|
The
Datoon Mountain region's puffholes are greatest around the
Large Oilpit,Little Oilpit, and Gengdsuping. They are known
for the explosive geological activities.
|
Although
Little Oilpit is not as large as Large Oilspit, but its
distribution is more unique in that the white smokes can
be seen throughout the valley.
|
The
heat Little Oilpit's puffholes produce are extremely high
and erosive, thus making the geological outlook of this
region quite remarkable, with the height difference to run
up to 100 meters. When
puffholes sizzle and send heatwaves up, tourists get
a real feel of the geological activities.
|
hotspring
characteristic
Due
to the ongoing activities of the puffholes, the temperature
of hotspring in this region run up to 99degC, and thus
can not be used directly. What residents do right now is
use pipelines to channel the heat and water for their use.
